Cove is built for your most vulnerable moments. We treat your privacy not as a legal obligation, but as a sacred trust. Your words, your feelings, and your story belong to you — always.
Information We Collect
Account Information
When you sign up, we collect only what's needed to provide the service:
- Phone number (to call you)
- Email address (for account management and receipts)
- Name (optional — you can use Cove anonymously)
- Payment information (processed securely by Stripe; we never store card details)
Conversation Data
When you talk with Cove, we process and store:
- Conversation transcripts (encrypted at rest)
- Mood patterns and therapeutic progress notes
- Topics and themes you've discussed
- Your therapeutic goals and exercises
This data exists solely to make your Cove experience personal and continuous. It is never sold, shared for advertising, or used to train AI models.
Usage Data
We collect minimal technical data to keep the service running:
- Call duration and frequency
- Device type and operating system (for troubleshooting)
- Error logs (automatically purged after 30 days)
How We Use Your Information
Your data is used exclusively to:
- Provide the service — Remember your conversations, track your progress, personalize your experience
- Generate therapist summaries — Only with your explicit opt-in, and only summaries (never full transcripts)
- Improve safety — Crisis detection and escalation to human support
- Communicate with you — Account updates, billing, and service changes
We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, or selling to third parties. Period.
Data Sharing
We share your data only in these circumstances:
- With your therapist — Only when you explicitly enable therapist integration. You control what's shared and can revoke access at any time.
- Service providers — Encrypted data processing (cloud hosting, payment processing). All providers are bound by strict data processing agreements.
- Legal requirements — When required by law, court order, or to protect safety. We will notify you unless legally prohibited.
- Crisis situations — If we detect imminent risk of harm, we may share information with emergency services.
Data Security
- All conversations are encrypted in transit (TLS 1.3) and at rest (AES-256)
- Regular security audits and penetration testing
- Strict access controls — our team cannot read your conversations
- Data stored in SOC 2 Type II certified facilities
Your Rights & Choices
- Access — Request a copy of all data we hold about you
- Correction — Update or correct your information at any time
- Deletion — Delete your account and all data permanently and immediately. No retention periods, no hidden copies.
- Portability — Export your data in a standard format
- Opt-out — Disable therapist sharing, analytics, or any optional features at any time
- Anonymity — Use Cove without providing your real name
Data Retention
Your conversation data is retained as long as your account is active. When you delete your account:
- All conversation data is permanently deleted within 24 hours
- Therapist summaries are deleted from our systems (your therapist's copies are their responsibility)
- Payment records are retained for 7 years as required by financial regulations
- Anonymized, aggregated statistics may be retained (these cannot identify you)
Children's Privacy
Cove is designed for adults 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has created an account, please contact us immediately.
International Users
Cove is operated from Ontario, Canada. If you access Cove from outside Canada, your data may be transferred to and processed in Canada. We apply the same privacy protections regardless of where you're located.
Changes to This Policy
If we make significant changes, we'll notify you by email or during your next Cove call at least 30 days before changes take effect. Continued use after that constitutes acceptance.
